Haven't done a "damnwhatwereyouthinking" post in awhile.

Check out this hot mess of a rear spring set up.
How many things can you spot that are just wrong ?
I see a easy 6 ..  click on pic it should get bigger.

RATURDS

Some knucklehead is fucking up one of my chassis'
He didn't buy it from me, got it second hand.
Figures he needed more kick and airbags. (why do rat rodders think bags are needed?)
Pisses me off seeing a dude with no clue cutting up what we built.
Look at the rear Z he made. What a joke.

When Rats attack

Craigslist seems to be the dumping ground for bad builds.

Zoom up on the end of the axle..
Oh my god.

Friday, August 26, 2016

oh no. RAT TURDS

this ain't right.
the heim end is facing the wrong way ,
hairpins on a tube axle is explained in suspension 101
the stacked tubing of the frame is just as bad. do you see the weak point ?

Wheel placement

When building a hot rod truck, the rear tire placement is key
kinda cool truck but the rear tire placement
why on earth are they that far back?

Here's his brothers truck, maybe now I understand

And their uncles truck

Ford I-beam axle

So simple, yet so easy for some to screw up
Look at his hot mess, nice chrome plating etc..
Can tell that's a Chinese rip off front spring.
The bulldog perch is so long, I'd guarantee it to fail.
Oh, hey  where's the shocks !

ugg

Where will the headlights mount? Two feet behind the axle?
Picture the spring on top of the axle, and a regular Model A front crossmember.
It would be at the same height, but you could then make it work.

oops , rat rod mistakes..

I'm just saying, know what I'm saying ? Little too far forward ..

Here's a new mistake , at least I've never seen it before
the front fenders go on the front !

Thanks Steve for the local craigslist ads

Saturday blog

Found a picture of the coupe Lucky built on the frame package we did for him.
channeled 4" over the main rails on our swept front design.

Stumbled over this cool pick up parked out front of the old store front
I can see the store is empty so it was taken right after it was moved to Denver
but before it was turned into a boat retail store.

And now here's another fantastic creation
yeah I really don't know, the rear end is mounted behind the body.
Willest Works is the photographer I found out.

Ouch, so ugly it hurts

My buddy Sal down in Florida is on the hunt for a 1930-31 coupe.
Almost made a seven hour drive out to see one for sale.
Luckily he got more pictures..

The frame was done by a shop out there. And do you notice the cowl has been cut off flat ?
Ouch that's some ugly fab work.

Reframed IHC truck

Here's a ol home built truck.
Going to build him a solid new El Roberto frame package.

It will be fun to watch in change into a nice hot rod.
And a fun to drive truck that will be safe.

Daniel and his buddy in Santa Anna are going to do the rebuild.
Watch here for future updates.

Dirty rats attack

Another buddy sent me these pictures.
Horrible designed frame.
Can you see the flaws in its design? try to imagine the front spring mount..
And he posts a picture of a coupe I built the frame for.
His iron turd has nothing to do with that coupe.
Straight off the HAMB classifieds.  Pretty flippin' funny to me.
Now that's a rear kick up. Right up to the deck lid
Suicide front perch not built yet. I'd guess it will need to be 15 inches tall
off the round tube front.

says it's super heavy so the coupe will ride better
why not fill the holes with concrete and go for super duper heavy ?

I can't explain how much I hate this type of home made parts , cheap heim ends

This is the picture he posted. It's a Riley Automotive chassis I built for a customer in Oregon
The new owner Dan in Virginia loves it
in his garage and bet he wouldn't want anyone to think that dude built anything on his clean coupe.

The coupe pictured is riding on a double Z'd chassis like Matt's pictured above..
Nothing extreme, just our proven design.

When rats attack

I don't know. My pal sent me this pictures.
Guessing he pulled from FB, WTF ? yeah boy real good design work there.

WOW.  I bet he hasn't even thought about shock placement yet.
I'm starting to like the old Weld County GM 4 links. (not really)

Wheelbase , wheel placement

Pretty funny.
I don't know what to say.
But it did make me smile.  (then I coughed up loogie )
The four door sedan with the front doors removed is kinda a neat idea.

Front end Oops !

Stamped "Street Rodder" but I don't know more then that.

Look closely at this front end....
As a curved leaf spring compresses it gets flatter.
We all will agree to that right?
Well it also gets longer. (That's why you see shackles on leaf springs.)
But in this set up, as the spring compresses it will push on the bottom of the axle
Changing the caster as the axle goes up and down.
I don't know what they did (or even if this was finished) for steering.
That could get tricky too.
looks like it would have side steer. Every bump would jiggle the steering. ( I'm being nice)

The frame ends what 12 inches behind the axle.  Hey what about shocks ! ?
And where does the radiator go? Or headlights ?
If you know the issue this was in, let me know. Would like to see what this was all about.

Farmers daughter sedan.. welding grinding

Nothing exciting or fun.
But the drivers side quarter panel is almost one solid piece
cowl getting patched

quarter panel fixings

inner quarter panel brace
